Stupid people are asymptomatic. (Until they show up on Zoom)
The vase SMASHED to smithereens!
As 300 amused people stifled their giggles, the presenter muttered a hurried apology & stepped away to shoo the culprit.
The culprit? – an obese blonde CAT that looked acutely pissed.
And that was our ‘Zoom meeting moment of the day’.
We, a 300 something audience, were 45minutes into a meeting screen that displayed half-a-presenter’s face & an entire high-drama household (talk about bad camera angles). The remarkably unkempt presenter was restlessly smoothening his sticky hair and talking with abject disinterest about office dress codes, when his pet decided to take the spotlight.
As he got up to shoo his cat, we all saw it. The guy who was hiding most of himself from the camera (& audaciously setting the rules on office dress codes) was wearing neon shorts & a ratty old warped T-shirt.
The bold text on the T-shirt pleaded “Dekho, Magar Pyaar Se!”. (And that was Zoom meeting moment of the day #2.)
WFH has been an incredibly entertaining journey. This is mainly thanks to many folks who enter Zoom calls & stage an embarrassing scene equivalent of a ‘wardrobe malfunction’ due to their inability to mute their audios, or their videos, or position their cameras smartly, or due to just plain stupidity.
I have seen the occasional show of people’s bathroom ceilings (and the inside of their noses) – thanks to them not disabling ‘automatically connect to video’ while entering meetings. One also gets free entry into another’s household drama – kids screaming, wives screaming louder, pets sending messages via Slack etc etc
The last few days have been all about grim statistics.
The most alarming ones highlight the deficiency of common sense. And prove that stupidity is in fact asymptomatic.
Tell me more about your Zoom moments in the comments!
P.S. These are my top 3 favourite ‘unmuted’ moments on Zoomcalls. (True Stories):
- “Maaaaaaaa, Roti lagaaa do!”
- “Ayee, thappad padegi! Homework karo jaldiiii!”
- “ Heyy, got the offer letter. Am on another call. Will check and call you back!” (OOPS)
P.P.S. This is the best part. Pranksters have come up with amazing plugins to help navigate through your remote life:
- A Zoom plugin using which you can fake crying babies, the doorbell, barking dogs or even network issues to get that much needed respite from video calls. (GENIUS!)
- A handy plugin that can be used to corrupt your PDF assignments. By the time the teacher realises that the file is corrupted & asks you to resend a new file, you will have had extra time to complete the assignment. The only plug-in needed will be some really good acting. 😉
